Description:
Great River Energy is seeking an Electrical Engineering intern within our Power Supply division at our Spiritwood Station in Jamestown, ND. The intern will provide engineering support services on assigned Spiritwood Station (SWS) plant systems and projects to ensure economical, reliable, safe, and efficient systems operation.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  1. Provide project management and engineering support on projects of limited scope and complexity to monitor and control project expenditures against the established budget and to maintain schedules.
  2. Perform work that involves conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures or equipment with relatively few complex features to correct or resolve operating problems and conditions.
  3. Gather and correlate data involving calculations and testing, and using established procedures, to perform routine engineering duties.
  4.  Investigate and evaluate equipment failures and minor system changes to maintenance and operational procedures and practices to achieve optimum system and equipment performance.
  5. Assist with inspection work for assigned equipment during scheduled and unscheduled outages. Major inspection items may include boilers, turbine, and plant equipment.
  6. Assist with maintenance and operation personnel to investigate equipment or systems performance. This includes inspections, record equipment condition and other measurements to provide analysis and technical assessments.
  7. Understand and follow Great River Energy’s (GRE’s) safety and environmental policies and procedures. Report all unsafe acts or conditions that may cause injury to plant personnel or damage equipment.
Requirements:
Must be enrolled in college and have completed basics in an electrical engineering curriculum.
  1. Work Experience is not required.
  2. Must have a valid Driver’s License
  3. Must have knowledge of basic engineering principles and techniques. 
  4. Must have the ability to manage projects and coordinate assignments.
  5. Must be capable of communicating effectively on a technical level with engineers, technicians, contractors, etc. 
  6. Must have analytical, interpretive, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. 
  7. Must have intermediate personal computing skills and knowledge of spreadsheet, database, and word processing software applications. 
  8. Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job
Physical Requirements:
Working conditions include office and plant environments. Equipment and systems inspections require working in high places, with physical movement including bending, twisting, and climbing. Exposed to noise, vibration, and dust. May require working periodic shift work schedules and will be expected to work extra hours and report to the plant during non-scheduled working periods. Required to wear personal protective equipment.
 
We provide competitive internship pay. 
Duration of the internship will be PT during the school year (minimum of 10 hours/week) and FT during Summer/Breaks.
