General Summary:  
Great River Energy is seeking a summer Transmission Business Strategy & Development intern located in our Maple Grove, MN headquarters with the eligibility to work in a hybrid environment. The Transmission Business Strategy & Development team is responsible for the business aspects of the transmission division and the development and executing Great River Energy’s forward transmission strategies. In this role you will utilize critical thinking skills as a transmission and regulatory policy expert to perform analysis and research, and synthesize information to develop policy positions, strategies, and recommendations supporting the transmission needs of GRE’s member-owners. The intern will be responsible for working across multiple transmission functions and roles – providing an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in many fields.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  1. Supports transmission strategy development through research and analysis incorporating industry trends and emerging technologies.
  2. Gathers and synthesizes information from transmission regulatory proceedings to anticipate future regulatory needs. 
  3. Identifies projects eligible for federal grant opportunities.
  4. Influences development and implementation of energy policy.
  5. Develops business terms and risk management positions of transmission contracts.
  6. Develops an understanding of the overall company including mission, customers, and the wider industry by collaborating with other interns and engaging in internal workshops. Develop and present a capstone project at the end of the internship.

Requirements
Requirements:
  1. Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, engineering, economics, finance, pre-law, or related field.
  2. Ability to work within a team environment. Must seek opportunities to build network across division.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication ability.
  4. Ability to synthesize information, consider multiple viewpoints, develop conclusions, and make recommendations.  
  5. Demonstrated skill in problem solving.
  6. Must be a self-starter and comfortable with problems that involve ambiguity and tradeoffs, not black-and-white answers.

Physical Requirements
Working Conditions:
The majority of work will be performed in a normal office environment.  The ability to clearly and comfortably view, interpret, and process information via a computer monitor for extended periods of time during normal working hours is required.  Some tasks may require repetitive motions, i.e. computer work.

Duration of the internship will be FT during May – August 2024.
