Great River Energy is seeking an Electrical or Computer Engineer Intern to provide engineering support to design engineers in the substation areas. Some independent work on projects of limited scope and duration. This position will be located in Maple Grove MN at our headquarters with the eligibility to work in a hybrid environment.  
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist Substation Engineering to complete design for capital projects according to GRE standards.
    • Prepare estimates 
    • Establish schedule 
    • Project design specifications
    • Bill of Materials for procurement
    • Develop construction drawings
    • Relay settings and protection coordination
    • Review as-built drawings
  • Assist in performing engineering studies and evaluations under close supervision in the area of substation design.
  • Assist with engineering database and system model manipulation associated with system-wide assets.
  • Assist with substation engineering development of design standards.
Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in college in an engineering curriculum and 1+ year’s general engineering knowledge\experience obtained through college curriculum, internship and\or work experience.
  • Knowledge of the Electric Utility Industry and governing Codes & Standards
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, SharePoint)
  • Demonstrated skill in problem solving
  • Ability to communicate in an effective manner
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to be productive and business focused
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment

Physical Requirements

Much of the work will be in a normal office environment with some work being performed in the field at construction sites. Office work involves working at a computer station for long periods of time.  Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.

Duration of the internship will be PT during the school year (minimum of 10 hours/week) and FT during Summer/Breaks in a hybrid work environment.
