Must be enrolled in college and have attained the second year status in an engineering or technology curriculum and 1+ year’s general engineering or technical knowledge\experience obtained through college curriculum, internship and\or work experience.
Salary:
$25.00-$30.00/hr

Description:
Provide supplemental technical support for the System Operations department by assisting the staff engineers.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist in providing technical support for the development and maintenance of the Energy Management System (EMS) and Distribution Management System (DMS) databases.
    • Perform EMS database modifications as requested from engineering staff. 
    • Collaborate with department staff to standardize and enhance existing EMS functionality. 
    • Work with department staff to integrate database points into functional EMS/DMS displays. 
    • Create EMS/DMS databases for transmission and distribution projects based on RTU point lists and project documentation. 
    • Edit EMS/DMS displays. 
  • Assist with leveraging new tools and functionality from the EMS SCADA system.
  • Utilize visualization tools to help display technical data in an efficient manner to make business decisions.
  • Assist in the development of power system models. 
    • Utilize software modeling packages, such as PSS/e, to represent transmission and distribution equipment, loads, contingencies, and other related elements. 
    • Assist in maintaining network transmission models and databases for EMS applications.
    • Perform verification of power system models by confirming results of model simulations.
    • Help validate and consolidate various power system models
  • Assist engineers, technicians, analysts, and management in data collection, analysis, drafting, and/or documentation in support of other System Operations functions.
Requirements:
Must be enrolled in college and have attained the second year status in an engineering or technology curriculum and 1+ year’s general engineering or technical knowledge\experience obtained through college curriculum, internship and\or work experience.
  • Knowledge\experience with electrical equipment, integrated system design, operating characteristics, analytical techniques, power system modeling techniques and simulation programs preferred.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Access)
  • Knowledge of the Electric Utility Industry and governing Codes & Standards
  • Demonstrated skill in problem solving.
  • Ability to communicate in an effective manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to be productive and business focused.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

Physical Requirements:
The majority of work will be performed in a normal office environment.  The ability to clearly and comfortably view, interpret, and process information via a computer monitor for extended periods of time during normal working hours is required.  Ability to identify and distinguish colors is required. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. 

We provide competitive internship pay. 
Duration of the internship will be PT during the school year (minimum of 10 hours/week) and FT during Summer/Breaks.
