Great River Energy is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern to provide support to the area transmission planning group.  The intern will assist on performing non-wire alternatives (NWA) studies, transmission system assessments, member substation and DER interconnection studies, EMT analysis, data analyses and production of dashboards.  

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Assist in analyzing the reliability of GRE, neighboring, and regional transmission system s to accommodate load growth improve reliability and provide outlet for new resources. 
    1. Conduct load flow, stability, fault, Electro Magnetic Transient and other technical studies. 
    2. Formulate analytical techniques and study procedures. 
    3. Develop best value facility addition plans.
  2. Develop power system models and analyzing tools.
    1. Use Python or other programming language to maintain or build tools. 
    2. Incorporate the characteristics and needs of the Member Systems. 
    3. Develop and implement representation of equipment, generation, loads, contingencies, and other power system components. 
  3. Produce Non-Wire Alternatives (NWA) to proposed transmission projects and perform DER interconnection studies to meet member needs.
    1. Develop plans to meet long-term implementation of NWA.
    2. Monitor and coordinate T&D planning studies. 
    3. Research new NWA technologies. 
  4. Implement data analytic techniques to take in a large data set and turn it a usable format.
    1. Fetch data from internal and external sources 
    2. Summarize a large into PowerPoint slides for presentation at staff meetings.
    3. Update and maintain existing Power Bi dashboards. 
    4. Build new dashboard to show study results and transmission plans. 

Requirements
  1. Currently enrolled in bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  2. Verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to research, analyze, and make recommendations related to engineering decisions.
  4. Ability to take directions and work within a team environment.
  5. Demonstrated experience in utilizing problem solving skills to address primarily technical nature issues.

Physical Requirements

Much of the work will be in a normal office environment with some work being performed in the field at construction sites. Office work involves working at a computer station for long periods of time.  Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.

Duration of the internship will be PT during the school year (minimum of 8-10 hours/week) and FT during Summer/Breaks in a hybrid work environment.
