Job Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned Diesel Engine/Generator Mechanic to join the world’s largest equipment rental provider at their Cottage Grove, MN facility. This role is ideal for someone with extensive experience maintaining and repairing generator engines, particularly units producing up to 2MW (2,000kW) of power. You'll perform diagnostics, advanced repairs, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of diesel-powered generator systems. The ideal candidate thrives in a hands-on environment and has a passion for engine performance, reliability, and field service excellence.
We are seeking a seasoned Diesel Engine/Generator Mechanic to join the world’s largest equipment rental provider at their Cottage Grove, MN facility. This role is ideal for someone with extensive experience maintaining and repairing generator engines, particularly units producing up to 2MW (2,000kW) of power. You'll perform diagnostics, advanced repairs, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of diesel-powered generator systems. The ideal candidate thrives in a hands-on environment and has a passion for engine performance, reliability, and field service excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform expert-level troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel generators, engines, and related components (including units up to 2MW)
• Conduct field service calls to customer sites as required, providing timely and accurate repairs
• Complete preventative maintenance inspections and document all service activity
• Read and interpret complex schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals
• Maintain clean, organized service vehicles and follow company safety standards
• Mentor and assist other technicians with less experience when needed
• Communicate with service managers and clients to provide updates on service work
• Ensure all tools and diagnostic equipment are in good working condition

• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• 5+ years of diesel engine/generator repair experience required
• Proven experience servicing commercial generators producing up to 2MW
• Familiar with engine controls, fuel systems, exhaust systems, and emissions technology
• Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills
• Must own a complete set of tools relevant to the trade
• Manufacturer-specific training or certifications (e.g., CAT, Cummins, Kohler, MTU) preferred
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs., bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
