Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced R&D Mechanic to support prototype development and testing within a research and development environment. In this hands-on role, you will perform mechanical work on heavy equipment, assist with fabrication and assembly of prototype components, and support the transition of new designs into production. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical aptitude, experience with hydraulic and electrical systems, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform mechanical work on heavy equipment and road paving machinery
• Fabricate, assemble, instrument, and test prototype machine components
• Work with hydraulic and electrical systems during prototype development
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and support problem resolution during prototype-to-production transition
• Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and service engineering teams throughout development and field follow-up
• Assist with administrative shop tasks such as inventory tracking and supply ordering
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment

Qualifications
• Vocational or technical degree in a related field (auto, diesel, or truck mechanics) or equivalent hands-on experience
• 3+ years of mechanical experience in a related industry preferred
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a cross-functional team
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively
• Willingness to supply some personal tools (most tools provided initially)
• Steel-toe boots with metatarsal guards required
• 3+ years of mechanical experience in a related industry preferred
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a cross-functional team
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively
• Willingness to supply some personal tools (most tools provided initially)
• Steel-toe boots with metatarsal guards required
Physical Requirements
• Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, and hoists
• Lift up to 35 lbs regularly
• Work at multiple heights
• Stand for 8-hour shifts with minimal breaks
• Kneel, squat, crawl, and work in tight or awkward positions
• Perform repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling, and rotating motions
• Work in environments with changing temperatures
• Exposure to magnets that may impact medical devices
• Lift up to 35 lbs regularly
• Work at multiple heights
• Stand for 8-hour shifts with minimal breaks
