Description:

Great River Energy (GRE) is seeking a Resource Planning Data Analyst Intern at our headquarters in Maple Grove, MN (hybrid) to assist in technical aspects of portfolio analysis including forecasting, capacity expansion modeling, visualizations, and data analysis / stewardship.

Resource Planning focuses on the long-term strategy and analysis of resource decisions for the cooperative. The group conducts all the econometric modeling for portfolio decision making, forward energy and demand forecasting analysis, regulatory affairs for resource planning decision making at the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and all renewable energy purchases, strategy, and contract management. 

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist with a variety of primarily quantitative projects.
• Data analysis and assistance with quantitative analytical exercises
• Analysis of input data for member forecasting processes including meter data, member data regarding electric vehicles, distributed energy resources, and demand side resources.
• Research for potential new avenues of analysis using existing data and datasets to identify areas of opportunity for new projects or programs.
• Manipulation of modeling input and output data in portfolio analysis exercises
• Creating rich visualizations using existing data regarding endpoints such as new resource investment, or the existing GRE resource portfolio.
• Assist with data streamlining and management of existing processes including:
  • Member energy and demand forecasting
  • Capacity expansion modeling
  • Renewable energy credit accounting and analysis
• Role will include software seats with all products used in the Resource Planning department, and applicant will be expected to familiarize themselves with the programs under direction of Resource Planning staff to assist with existing projects ongoing in the department.

Requirements:

Must be enrolled in college in a data science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, economics, computer sciences or related field.

• Experience working with large datasets.
• Background including creative use of new processes or management practices for large quantities of data.
• Comfortable working with a wide variety of data types and software
• Ability to be innovative, productive, and focused on continuous learning.
• High proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
• Background or proficiency in automation and programs used for data automation and analysis

Physical Requirements:

Much of the work will be in a normal office/hybrid environment. Office work involves working at a computer station for extended periods of time.  Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.

Duration of the internship will be PT during the school year (minimum of 8-10 hours/week) and FT during Summer/Breaks in a hybrid work environment.
