Job Summary
We are seeking a Transmission Economic Analytics Intern to join our client’s team in Maple Grove, MN. In this role, you will assist with the creation of automated reports, analysis of key financial metrics, budget development, and research of regulatory and industry trends. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated student to apply data analytics, finance, and economics skills in a real-world setting within the energy industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop automated reports in Power BI and Excel to track transmission rates and financial metrics over time.
- Build and maintain a data repository of internal and external information used for reporting and analysis.
- Support the preparation and analysis of the upcoming transmission division budget.
- Conduct research on industry policies, market trends, and regulatory changes; summarize findings for use in business strategy discussions.
- Perform ad hoc financial and economic analysis, including forecasts and trend evaluations.
- Assist in the development of reports and presentations to communicate analytical findings.
- Participate in team meetings, take notes, and contribute ideas and insights.
- Collaborate across departments to gain a comprehensive understanding of the organization and the broader energy landscape.
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, data analytics/science, energy policy, or a related field at an accredited institution.
- Coursework or experience in economic, financial, or statistical modeling required.
- Strong interest in the energy industry and electric utility operations.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (data modeling and visualization).
- Experience with R or Python preferred for data analysis and modeling automation.
- Experience with Power BI or Tableau preferred for data visualization.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Internship Duration
- Full-Time: 40 hours per week during summer and academic breaks.
- Part-Time: 10+ hours per week during the academic year.
- Continuation in the internship program is based on performance and business needs.
- Hybrid work eligibility may be granted following successful onboarding and management approval.
